“I write poetry because I need to teach and tell others and myself about God, history, awkward experiences, angst, depression, heartbreak and much more of the human experience that we so often overlook and can’t explain in our everyday simple speech.”
Aaron Hicks is a writer who is proud to say he lives in Columbia, South Carolina. He is a graduate of Western Carolina University where he studied English. “Growing up, I remember always having a book in my hand. I recall feeling my heartbeat rise when entering a bookstore or library. I fell in love with reading very early, but didn’t find myself loving writing until much later in college. Poetry conveys truth, beauty, and life, and allows similes and metaphors to artfully express what is indescribable. ” ~Aaron Hicks
Picking up Fast Food on Sunday Evening
Sunlight fades,
moon still absent,
an intermission,
cruising Main Street.
Stoplights demand stillness
scanning crosswalk souls.
Backpack-clad students,
homeless on Main and Calhoun,
couples leaving the Nickelodeon Theatre,
ice cream lovers perched on the patio.
Quiet March air,
a moment of Disneyland here
before tomorrow’s dawn.
Aaron has been published in various journals and online magazines including Call + Response Journal, The New Verse News, After the Art, BlazeVox Journal, Ornery Quarterly, and Dream Noir magazine.
