Scars and Gratitude

Prayer is our humble attempt
To put the wordless into words,
To lasso a mystery
Before it stampedes us with its haloed hooves.

A temporary fix for an eternal problem
Or a timeless cure for placeholder pain?
Well, depends on the fluctuating ratio
Between scars and gratitude.

We kneel to reveal our zeal
For something beyond ourselves
Even if it's as nameless as the cosmos
Bookending beginnings on an endless landscape.

Answers come in quiet whispers
Then turn right back into questions
Which both validates dissatisfaction
And the fact we're still alive.

Peace is a piece of a pie
Not yet available at the local bakery
Although if the ads are to be believed,
It shall be in stock sooner than later.
